IRA Charitable Donation - A gift for now
Are you looking for a way to save lives and have an IRA that you would like to use for charitable giving? If you are 70 ½, you can make tax-free charitable donations directly from your IRA to a qualified charity like the Hearts Landing Ranch. By making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), you can benefit Hearts Landing Ranch while reducing your taxable income. These gifts are also known as “IRA charitable rollovers”.
IRA charitable rollover gifts (QCD’s) do not qualify for a charitable deduction. However in tax year 2024, you can exclude up to $105,000 of QCD’s from your gross income each year. If you file a joint return, and your spouse is 70 ½ or older, they can also give an additional $105,000 from an IRA, for a total of up to $210,000.
Beginning in the year you turn 73, QCD’s count towards satisfying any required minimum distributions (RMD’s), that you would otherwise have to receive from your IRA according to IRS rules. In addition to a generous gift to Hearts Landing Ranch, you may benefit by reducing your overall taxable income by more than your donation or reducing “Income Penalties” on Medicare Premiums.
How an IRA charitable rollover works
1 – Contact your IRA administer and request a distribution directly from your IRA to Hearts Landing Ranch.
2 – Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to the Hearts Landing Ranch to help us continue our life saving work. If we are notified, we will send a letter acknowledging your gift as a qualified charitable distribution.
3–This popular gift has many benefits to you and Hearts Landing Ranch.
Age 59½ and over: Traditional IRA withdrawals with no restrictions
Starting at age 59 ½, you can take a distribution from your IRA account or Tax Deferred Annuity without penalty and then make a gift to Hearts Landing Ranch. This gift might qualify for a charitable deduction if you itemize your deductions.
*Please consult your attorney or an estate planning professional when preparing legal documents.
